A member of the mustelid family, like the stoat and the badger, and of considerable conservation significance in Britain.

Sampling Advice

  • The fresher a sample is, the more likely the test will be able to extract viable DNA.
  • A scat sample with sufficient biological material to be used as a reserve is required in case the extraction is unsuccessful the first time.

Specimens can be analysed all year round. Most visible in spring when the snow has melted but they still have their white, winter coat. Most active at night.
